Solar PV Battery

What is Solar PV ?

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels convert daylight into electricity. A system consists of solar modules made up of photovoltaic cells. The electricity can be used in your home, stored in a battery or exported to the grid. Solar PV produces renewable electricity without direct emissions while operating.

Why is a battery Important?

Solar panels generate electricity during daylight hours. Electricity not used immediately can be stored in a battery for use later, such as during the evening, or exported to the grid. Where suitable, surplus generation can also be diverted to an immersion heater to heat water. The best arrangement depends on household demand, tariff, system design and available equipment.

How long does a typical solor installation take ?

Many domestic installations are completed in one or two working days . The exact timescale depends on system size

Benefits of Battery Storage

Battery storage allows you to keep surplus solar electricity for use later, including during the evening or when solar generation is low. A battery can also be charged from the grid during lower-cost tariff periods where the tariff and settings allow. The potential benefit depends on household consumption, tariff, battery capacity, system efficiency and how the battery is used.

Installing battery storage alongside solar PV can reduce duplicate installation work, but the best option depends on your property and budget.

Do solar panels work in winter and on cloudy days?

Solar panels generate electricity throughout the year whenever daylight is available, including during winter and cloudy weather. Output is usually lower when light levels are reduced and days are shorter. Actual generation depends on location, season, roof orientation and pitch, shading and system design. Rain may remove some loose surface dirt, but it does not replace appropriate cleaning or maintenance where deposits remain.
